New Year – New You

As we head into the new year of 2024 many of us are thinking about selfcare, but what exactly does that look like? True health & happiness involves physical, mental, & emotional wellbeing. Is there any one thing that provides all that? Yes, and it is probably not what you think.

Healing Power of Nature

Science has proven what we’ve known to be true in our hearts for centuries – that nature is healing. Studies have shown just hearing the melodies of nature decreases stress & promotes well being. A mere 20 minutes of fresh air & time outdoors can lower blood pressure and stress hormone levels as well as improve our mood and lead to higher quality sleep.

The Preserve offers you the chance to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse yourself in the tranquil sights and sounds of nature.

Whether you’re staying in one of our domes sleeping under the stars or waking up in one of our deluxe tent cabins to the healing sounds of the river and singing birds. You’ll be surrounded by a peaceful environment that helps to promote overall well-being. Read a book in a hammock by the river, enjoy the views as you sit in our outdoor sauna, or grab a tube and float on the river.

While you’re planning your new year’s health goals, consider planning a stay with us, and nurture your health with nature.

Migrating geese rely on landmarks that they recognize from previous migrations to know where to go (such as rivers or mountain ranges). They also gather information from the positions of the sun, moon, & stars, & can even sense the Earth’s magnetic field.

Local spotlight

The Legacy of Grandma Moses: A Rural American Folk Artist, Anna Mary Robertson, affectionately known as “Grandma” Moses, was a prominent folk artist of the 20th century. Her paintings captured scenes of rural life that embodied a sense of an idyllic bygone America. Despite beginning her artistic career in her seventies, she quickly rose to fame, becoming one of America’s most celebrated artists. Moses spent most of her life in Eagle Bridge, New York, where she drew inspiration from the rolling landscape of Washington County.

Today, the 200-year-old farmhouse where Moses started her career is owned by her great-grandson, Will Moses. Will, who began painting at just four years old, has his own studio at the farmhouse. His paintings reflect the quiet beauty of the community, which is situated near the Vermont border. Through his art, Will has created a delightful miniature world filled with villagers carrying out simple, everyday pastimes.

If you’re interested in learning more about Grandma Moses, the Bennington Museum (located just 30 minutes from The Preserve), houses the largest public collection of her paintings in the world.
